Which activities should I avoid in pregnancy?
Contact sports, activities with a fall risk, scuba diving, and lying flat on your back for long periods after mid-pregnancy.
Avoid rugby, soccer tackling, boxing, horse riding, skiing and anything where a knock to the abdomen or a fall is likely. Avoid scuba diving and exercising in very hot, humid conditions or at high altitude if you are not used to it.
After about 16 weeks, avoid exercises lying flat on your back for long periods, and avoid straining to the point of breathlessness.
- Choose low-impact activity instead of contact sport
- Avoid overheating and getting dehydrated
- Stop if anything hurts or you feel faint
- A fall or blow to your abdomen
After any fall or blow to your stomach, go to the hospital to have you and your baby checked, even if you feel fine.
